“WE, history” is a project by the Polish History Museum aimed at including the voices of citizens in the co-creation of the Museum’s permanent exhibition — through personal testimonies related to key events, as well as social, political, and cultural transformations in Poland after 1989. The call for submissions runs from July 1 to August 31, 2025. The project is connected to a multimedia station located at the heart of the exhibition’s final section. This space, titled “Unfinished History,” encourages reflection on contemporary history — a story whose ending is still being written by new generations.
Creating memory together
The aim of “WE, history” is to collect accounts from eyewitnesses whose stories will be included in the exhibition. These personal narratives are intended to enrich the interpretation of events that shaped Poland after 1989. The Museum is seeking stories from people of all ages and backgrounds, representing different regions of the country. In particular, we are looking for testimonies about significant moments from the past four decades — both nationally important and locally meaningful.
Suggested topics include:
-
the Millennium Flood (1997)
-
Poland joining NATO (1999)
-
accession to the European Union (2004)
-
the death of Pope John Paul II (2005)
-
the Smolensk air disaster (2010)
-
organization of Euro 2012
-
the COVID-19 pandemic (2020–2022)
-
the outbreak of the war in Ukraine (2022)
We also welcome your own suggestions. This is not about analyzing events or offering political commentary, but rather about sharing a personal, emotional story: what was happening in your life at the time, what you remember, what moved you, changed you, or shaped you.
