Secret Agents and Secret Codes: The Polish Factor in WWII

Who was Krystyna Skarbek and why was she called Churchill’s favourite female secret agent? How was Enigma broken and how did the Poles manage to do something the English and French could not?

We invite you to the event “Secret Agents and Secret Codes: The Polish Factor in WWII”!

The event organised by Ognisko Polskie, The Polish Hearth Club will illuminate Churchill’s favourite female secret agent Krystyna Skarbek a.k.a. Christine Granville, and the breaking of the Enigma code.

Featuring Krystyna Skarbek’s biographer Clare Mulley; sculptor of the Skarbek bust in our Members’ Room, Ian Wolter; code breaking experts Dr Tim Flack, Hal Evans and Alex Maund doing practical demonstrations of the cyclometer and bomba machines along with the premiere of two short films about the Polish contribution to the breaking of the Enigma code produced by the Polish Cultural Institute in London; and Anna Pawlikowska’s insights about Skarbek’s portrait by her mother-in-law Aniela Pawlikowska.

This event is co-curated by the Polish Cultural Institute in London.

The event will take place on 21 October at 19:00 – 22:00 BST.
