XXIII International Congress of Historical Sciences held this week in Poznań

This week, the XXIII International Congress of Historical Sciences was held in Poznań, Poland after two years of postponement due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In the past, the international historian congress has only taken place once in Poland: in Warsaw, 1933.

The International Congress of Historical Sciences, held every five years, is an event for historians from around the world to discuss pressing issues, present the findings of their research, and build international cooperation. It is organized by the International Committee of Historical Sciences (ICHS), a non-governmental organization comprised of national committees, representing member countries, and specialist commissions, devoted to specific research concentrations. Founded in 1926, the ICHS’ primary goal is to promote the historical sciences through global collaboration.

New in the Congress this year is the Research Forum, where research institutions had the opportunity to present planned or ongoing projects to an audience of established and beginning scholars and researchers. The aim of the program is to provide a gateway for further cooperation between institutions and established scholars.

The organizers of the congress are: the International Committee of Historical Sciences (ICHS), the Committee of Historical Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences and the University of Adam Mickiewicz in Poznań. The organizing committee includes, among others Marshal of the Greater Poland Voivodeship, director of the Polish History Museum, members of the Polish Historical Society and historians from various Polish universities.
