Master game – A new book by Wojciech Roszkowski published by the Polish History Museum

The book Master game. Józef Piłsudski and the Rebirth of Poland by Wojciech Roszkowski has been published recently by the Polish History Museum.

The 123-year experience of five Polish generations, with no state of their own under the three partitions, may have been a serious burden. But the huge task of the creation of a modern state, attempted frequently in the spirit of improvisation, was generally a success. How was it possible? This question is answered by Wojciech Roszkowski in Master game. Józef Piłsudski and the Rebirth of Poland.

Wojciech Roszkowski, Master game. Józef Piłsudski and the Rebirth of Poland, Polish History Museum, 2021.

In his monograph, the author presents the history of the rebirth of the Polish state, erased from the political map of Europe for over a hundred years, and the process of shaping the Second Polish Republic, which, just reborn, faced a new threat – from Bolshevik Russia. In an accessible and colorful way, the author describes the realities of the Polish interwar period and presents the entire spectrum of problems that Polish political leaders had to face, paying particular attention to Józef Piłsudski and his ability to think long-term and conduct effective domestic and foreign policy.

The book was first published by the Biały Kruk in 2018, on the 100th anniversary of Poland regaining independence.
