Prof. Andrzej Maczek passed away

The son of General Stanisław Maczek, commander of the 1st Armoured Division during the Second World War, Professor Andrzej Maczek died in Sheffield, England, on Sunday 16 July at the age of 86.

He devoted many years to nurturing the memory of his father and the soldiers serving under his command. Despite his advanced age, he regularly appeared at various ceremonies in Poland, the UK, France, the Netherlands and Belgium. In his own words, ‘the story of him [my father] and his soldiers is our national treasure’.
