Emigration Museum in Gdynia won the Museums in Short 2021 award

The animated film “Dżennet”, produced in 2019 by the Emigration Museum in Gdynia, received an award in the Museums in Short competition for the best video in the Storytelling category.

“Dżennet” is a short animation directed by Tomasz Popakul, which tells about the extraordinary biography of Dżennet Dżabaga-Skibniewska – a Caucasian princess who settled in Gdynia in the 1930s. Her life in this city coincided with tragic events – the nightmare of World War II, Nazism and communism. Despite this, however, she always had a small piece of her homeland with her – the rock.

Jury recognized in this video not only a paradigmatic story of twentieth-century Europe, but also a perfect example of the role played by museums as contemporary storytellers.

Besides winning the award, the video will also have the honor to be part of The Best in Heritage, the conference that every September in Dubrovnik brings together the winners of awards for museums and cultural sites from around the world.

The organizers of the “Museums in Shorts Award” competition are: musil – museum of industry and labour of Brescia, in collaboration with EMA – European Museum Academy, FSK – Forum Slavic Cultures and LABA.
