Poles remember about the Warsaw Insurgents

This year marks the 78th anniversary of the outbreak of the Warsaw Uprising. On this occasion, BohaterON has prepared the project “Dumni z Powstańców”, under which each of the Internet users can express gratitude to the insurgents for their heroic fight. The action will last 63 days – as long as the Warsaw Uprising lasted.

BohaterON is a nationwide historical campaign aimed at promoting the history of Poland in the 20th century and commemorating and honoring the participants of the Warsaw Uprising. It has been implemented since 2016 by three Wrocław organizations: Rosa Foundation, Sensoria Foundation and Columbus Generation Foundation, which are guided by a common slogan: Memory – Education – Help. It is this help that the activists of BohaterON bring to the Warsaw insurgents on a daily basis, supporting them in their daily duties, coordinating medical assistance and food supplies.

A special form of support for the insurgents is the project “Dumni z Powstańców” (“Proud of the Insurgents”) initiated this year. It is a continuation of the nationwide campaign “Kartka dla Powstańca” (“A Card for an Insurgent”), launched in 2016, under which anyone who wanted – both from Poland and abroad – could write a few words and send them to a selected insurgent. The campaign was met with a positive response – during the five years of its duration, the heroes of the fight for the capital received a total of 1,250,000 cards. So, BohaterON decided to develop this project.

As part of the “Dumni z Powstańców” project, a special website was created where everyone can post their own entry and express their gratitude to the Warsaw Insurgents using words, photos or videos. You can also mark the city from which you are sending the entry. The action will last 63 days – exactly as long as the fights of the Warsaw Uprising lasted. After October 2, the possibility of adding entries will be closed until August 1 of the following year.
